90% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah, 1% Grenache
The majority of the 2024 Red Blend hails from Armory Vineyard. In 2024 we had the opportunity to dabble with Mourvedre, a new variety for us at Cutbow. Our Grenache picked out light, so we picked up some Mourvedre last minute to hopefully blend in with Grenache or maybe even stand alone. We felt like the Mourvedre had wonderful potential to be a stand alone but didn't know how long we would be able to keep purchasing this fruit. So for now it remains a part of our Red Blend program. Other vineyards and varieties also make their way into this blend; Jack creek Vineyard Syrah at 5%, Levo Vineyard Petite Sirah at 4% and Armory Vineyard Grenache at 1%. This red blend, regarless of varieties, will always be a bridge between our Grenache and Syrah as they stand on their own. We’re always trying to make Grenache pretty and feminine, while Syrah should be textural and masculine. But the red blend is a wine that stands between the two, a Ying and Yang wine that expressed all the best qualities of each variety.
It contains about 30% whole-cluster stem inclusion and aged a combination of neutral and once-used French oak barrel aging for a total of 16 months.
